i watched Oprah yesterday...then i watched the news...then i look at my life.

years ago our ancestors consumed about 30kg worth of sugar per year(on average).
a few decades later, today, we're consuming about 75kg worth of sugar per annum.
in the US, 175billion dollars is spent on medication to cure diabetes alone,
that's more than the amount spent on curing AIDS and all the cancers combined.
some people even need to have organ transplants even before reaching 50years old.
.
although our brain mainly uses carbohydrates(sugar) to function,
too much of it is never good.
heck, nothing is good anymore when it's too much.
extra sugar in your bloodstream actually scratches your capillary walls,
and like how glass pieces cut your skin open,
sugar cuts open the walls of those capillaries.
our blood-cells will then try to heal itself,
closing the internal wound by clotting.
making the cross-sectional area of our veins and arteries involved smaller.
then your blood circulation slows down from that injured area onwards,
preventing oxygen and nutrients to reach its designated body-parts.
.
eventually,
those places of your body starts to die.
and when accidents happen and you just so happen to cut yourself there,
your body couldn't heal itself anymore.
instead,
due to the wound, staying opened to the environment,
it gets infections.
bacteria starts to manifest and populate itself, eating away your tissues.
soon,
the whole area rottens,
and have to be amputated.
.
what if the injury happened in your heart.
then heart attacks happen.
most diabetic died from cardiac-arrest by the way..
.
90% of the diabetes cases in the world is caused by unhealthy lifestyle(type 2 diabetes).
fast food, carbonated drinks...
constantly sitting,not exercising...
sleep late, then wake up early(or don't wake up until it's evening the next day :s)..becoming nocturnal lah basically.
.
if an individual drinks one can of soda each day,
his/her chances of getting diabetes increases as much as 60%.
.
two tablespoons of tomato ketchup contains as much as 2teaspoons of sugar.
well at least that's what they found in ketchup in the US.
i wonder if the consistency of sugar in ketchup is the same for ours...
hmm.
.
if your waist-line is more than the half of your height,
there is a very high risk for you to be a diabetic.
.
'white food'.
the most dangerous sort of food that we should reduce our intake in.
white flour, white bread, white sugar, white rice...
.
even salad dressing is filled with excess sugar :s
(didn't know that,since i don't take salad often)
.
symptoms:
constantly feeling thirsty,
constantly have the need to urinate,
(forgot the third one),
(forgot the forth one).
+______+
.
but as usual,
prevention is better than medication...(or something like that)
reduce the sugar in your food,
don't take so much unhealthy food(soda, sugary),
sleep when you're supposed to,
EXERCISE.
.
well, that's about what i got from the one-hour, information-packed show.
scary stuff,diabetes.
problem is,
we usually don't give a damn about all these things,
until we're tested and confirmed positive for diseases as such.
until when time is officially running out on us.
but i'm not going to be like the majority of us,
i'll change myself now.
make the effort,now.
correct the wrongs,now.
before it's too late.
.
Dr.Oz said something that's really meaningful.
we don't change when we see the pain,
we only do change when we FEEL it.
and felt the pain i did.
i don't want to wake up feeling normal on one day,
then woke up without my legs on the next,
and feel like i just lost everything life has to offer.
.
seriously people,
we must live healthy.
not because it's the right thing to do,
because you choose to do so,
and because you love yourself.
because nobody will love you as much as you love yourself.
because no one can do that much for you except yourself.
no one can help you undo your wrongs except yourself.
no one can feel your lost as you do.
.
.
.
.
i realized that it's getting harder and harder to satisfy ourselves these days...
unhappy with our government,
unhappy with our life,
unhappy with our jobs,
unhappy with the things we have,
unhappy with some of the people around us,
unhappy in general.
even if we claim that we're living a happy life,
one single drop of unhappiness will ruin all the good memories we've had.
why is that?
.
it's not like i'm very happy myself.
i stay at home most of my free time(which is most of the time lah),
and will be spending more time at home for the rest of my 4-months sem-break.
it gets a bit claustrophobic at times..
gets me thinking about weird things and over-thinking everything else in my life.
it's a bit depressing to me.
at some point i started asking myself:
why do my parents keep me here?
is it really because it's inconvenient for everyone if i worked?
i feel fat even if i eat less, what if this goes on for the rest of my holidays?
holidays are meant to be enjoyed with outings, fun activities, spending time with friends and family,
but all my friends who have 4-months off from school are all working, and my family is clearly busy with renovation work on my house,
so who do i spend my holidays with?
will staying alone too much cause depression? i feel depressed.
feel so useless at home...
everyone's out there, gaining experience..living life..while i'm here...i can literally feel myself stop progressing in my life.
.
i did some things...
baked,
knitted,
drew,
but it just doesn't feel as fun as i thought it would,
doing all these alone..
.
those working complain how boring it is to go to work,
for idle people like me,we complain about how boring life it is to not do anything.
those people in the middle east countries complain on how sucky their government is,
people here complain about how stupid OUR politicians are.
i personally think that all our politicians are too old to run the country.
hundreds of thousands for a facebook page. unbelievable.
i thought they should be more techno-savvy,
considering the fact that they have to promote themselves to us...
politics is like another version of entertainment,no?
except that what they do will actually affect our lives lah...
.
point is,
we can just find things that we don't like about anything easily don't we.
then twit about it, or put it as our facebook status,
oblivious about the words we throw around just because we're pissed.
irresponsible,aren't we?
.
.
.
.
.
sigh...
so lonely...
