1)completely shocked out of your pants that i'd used this word
2)utterly disgusted by fact that i brought it up
3)turned on (then YOU now is freaking me out)
.
.
thing is,
i bet it's the topic that most of us usually pushed to the farthest little dark corners of our head and is ashamed that you thought about it...
today, i learnt that sexuality isn't something to be ashamed of.
it's what we're made of:our body,mind,soul.
it's a natural thing.
.
but alas,
i'm an asian,i have my values and rules that my conservative culture teaches me...
how i,as a woman, should save myself for my husband and be devoted only to him..
how i should know my duties as a wife, hopefully give birth to a son, always keep the household in tip-top shape, and to take good care of my husband and family.
"honour the family name".
it's what i've grown to learn about my future as a chinese girl. this is one part of me that i will forever need to carry with me on my life's journey.
.
then there's the other...more modern part that i've developed over the years.
.
have you noticed, that the only sex education we got from our schooling years are how to wear sanitary pads, why so much blood miraculously flows out from our body from this magical little 3rd hole we never thought that we girls had that owning a vampire as a stand-by may sound pretty good to clean up our monthly mess.
oh and how babies are formed.
that's it.
.
don't tell me,
that as a stupid little teenager that you once were,
you had never wondered how 'daddy's' sperm got to 'mummy's' ovum in her uterus(not belly)to form yourself.
don't tell me,
that you have never once tried logging into porn sites to see what exactly is a 'sexual intercourse'.
don't tell me,
that you never get turned on(or even feel anything at all) when you watch actors kiss on tv.
(and those steamy bed scenes)
and don't you dare say that you don't use the word 'fuck' and you don't know what 'fuck' stands for.
.
this is reality.
we grow up,
we learn things,
we experiment,
poke around,
and keep the knowledge in your mental encyclopedia for future references.
scientific,no?
.
our parents teach us everything,
yet most of them do not teach us the most important lesson of all,
simply because it's 'awkward to talk to your kids about sex'.
alright so maybe some of them do teach their kids about it,
but what do they tell their children, exactly?
"ah boy ar,wear condoms when u want to 'that one that one' har.."
or
"girl ah, don't luan luan let any boys you like put their bird bird in your 'that place that place' har"
you see what i'm trying to say?
ok lah,
even if they do want to give us the total heads up on how the penis got through the vagina and how after a series of humping and moaning erection happens and semen 'leaked' into the Sacred Temple of the Uterus,
i wouldn't want to hear those from them anyways.
so geli.
.
.
which is why i'm actually glad that i'm born into this era, with all the sex-tapes,'graphic' books, and 'romantic' novels( I'M KIDDINNNNG....i meant to say the era of technology advancement...the era of goooogle~)
at least i could get some answers to my secret questions without all the gasps, awkward silence and shame...
.
in someways i agree that yes, as a woman, it would be the best if the first and last guy that touches your body is your husband.
but what are we suppose to do in the meantime then?
go hump tree?
honestly, the world is a different place then, compared to now.
we don't get married at 13 and have a bunch of grandchildren by 30 anymore.
and do you know, that women last time very seldomly get PMS just because they're pregnant a lot of those time when they should be experiencing period cramps?
women today are nothing BUT the never-ending PMS that had us feeling angry, sad, excited, sweaty, moody, bored, horny, disgusted, hungry, tired, ugly,in pain, sour, and fat all at once!
and it happens every month.
(it sucks being a girl)
.
it happens to everyone,
we reached puberty,
and some point along the line we start getting all interested in sex.
then you go all ''what's condom?what's a dildo?what does a vibrator do?lube?what's lube? Oh My God the real name for 'bird bird' is penis? so...tak sedap eyh''..
.
right so today i googled 'masturbation'.
'cause i remember the time when i was chatting with a younger boy(that i came to know from a junior of mine,he was 13 when i was 15 or so) on msn and he just went:'do you know what's masturbate?'
...i...was..flabbergasted.
so naive back then, i thought he mis-spelled 'master bed'.
.
masturbation.
before today i've always had a bad impression that masturbating is wrong and unhealthy and just plain disgraceful...how one person could pleasure him/herself by touching their own body.
but then i thought, well, having sex is proven scientifically to be good for our bodies.
men actually could lower their risk of getting prostate cancer by having sex on a constant, more frequent rate.
we could lower our risk of getting heart disease, cure depression and be generally happier in life by 'doing it' with our partners.
but what if we don't have a partner?
go around sleeping with everyone you find attractive?
then you'll risk getting STDs.
.
staying true to the asian principle and values,
sleeping around is not good.
plus, i'm quite self-obsessed, i love myself more than anybody in the world.
ain't no way i'm gonna go sleeping around.
but to stay in perspective,
i kinda get it,you know?
i understood.
when women got lonely, when they have no boy/girlfriend,
and it just happened to be one of those time when you're feeling super horny,
masturbation seemed to be a good choice.
.
don't wince,
you know guys do it.
so why is it so wrong and disgusting when women could do it too?
at least for women it's so much cleaner, we don't produce semen to shoot around(no offence to the guys out there)
.
you've heard so many things about the good of sexual intercourse carried out in the right way with right intentions,
and you've learnt so many ways to have sexual intercourse safely,ie condoms, contraceptive pills,IUD...
but how come they don't teach us masturbation?
it basically gives the same kind of satisfaction and has the same effect of lowering blood pressure and all that health thingamajigs..
no STDs, no pregnancies, no loss of virginity(shocker).
.
.
my intention was not to project any wrong thought or anything,
but purely for the curiousity of why is masturbation, and generally the topic of sex education, so foreign and being kept away from us?when we've already had a case(or two,i'm not so sure) where kids in primary schools fondling and kissing each other, when they don't even know things about their bodies yet.
.
i'm just saying, sex is not taboo-ed, and shouldn't be.
we're all shy about it,and it sometimes arouses suspicion, whether do we really understand our body and biology as much as we should.
and maybe, because so many of us are too shy to ask,to shy to trust, to shy to share anything, we're often wrongly lead-on and maybe ended up doing things we really shouldn't been doing,ie rape, incest, prostitution.
so many children and women are involved in human trafficking right now and it's scary to think what will become of the despicable industry, and our lives in the future.
which is more damaging,
masturbation, or prostitution?
.
if only we could make them see how important it is to educate everyone about every little thing that related to reproduction and health.
to put aside religious taboos, ancient beliefs,
and focus on the 'now', the real problem, what we have gained excess to with the invention of the computer, what the ignorant will make use of the informations in the wrong way,
and educate.
right the wrong, show the proper way to this thing, shine the light onto this darkness.
.
if we don't educate/be educated,
who's to say that the things we might be doing could be wrong?
if we're wrong to begin with,
who's going to stop our children from doing the same mistakes?
when will the women, men, and children stop being sacrificed into slavery?
.
Nice article and I couldn't agree more.. I respect the conservative way of children upbringing among Chinese parents (the same with my parents) but I don't think I'm going to do the same for my kids. Also, people who pretends that they don't watch porno freak me out big time.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think masturbation is totally healthy and is a way of knowing your body
