still haven't hang it up..
no suitable space :(
but i like how the lights fall onto it...ahhh~
.
went to my first fencing training after 1 week on hiatus..
have to say, I SUCK. BIG TIME.
.
anyway,
i realised something today.
it really doesn't matter how wide your vocabulary on a specific language is,
but it's how you use it..
honestly,
it's the way you project what you want to say and the percentage of the idea getting through to your reader/listener/audience that counts.
.
give me any fancy high-class english words and i can guarantee you that there is a big chance that i've never heard of them.
'but it's useful for essays..so shouldn't you know these words?'
well, depends on who will be reading it.
if you were to send it to harvard, oxford, whatever-big-shot-vard,
then by all means,
be my guest,
write away~
.
i've heard of a case before,
where there's this dude who pours out lines after lines of those fancy-smancy phrases in his essay.
he got a B.
question: why the hell did he get a B with such quality of writing????
because the reader can't understand it, that's why.
too fancy.
think about it,
we may be one of those examiners,
marking those papers someday,
with OUR level of understanding of the language.
.
essay papers are pretty much a game of russian roulette...
your grades depends on whether the marker likes your writing or not.
put it in simpler form,
imagine yourself marking your own paper.
and ask yourself,
'do i understand what i wrote?'
'do i like it?'
'do i love reading it,even after reading 100essays?'
.
take Jodi Picoult for example...
she's famous..
a lot of people like her writing.
i personally hate them.
to me they're unrealistic and has way too much detail.
and it doesn't reach out to me.
if i were a book editor, reading her book before deciding if i want to publish it,
i'd reject it.
the world is complicated and problematic enough,
why would i sell a book that tells an even more complicated story?
wanna die ah?
.
a lot of people told me my english is good.
but if you really take a closer look on my choice of words,
you'll find that there isn't much variation to it.
my vocab is compatible to anyone,
i'm not an expert in the language.
.
so, what makes me any different than everyone else?
articulation.
how to match the words together into a phrase, then into a sentence.
grammar.
i may not know exactly what is 'past perfect' tense,
or what do you call the group of words consisting of 'left, right,up,down, sideways, perpendicular'
no, i can't even classify words besides verbs.
but i know how to use them they way they should be used.
to me,
that is the most important thing in learning grammar.
.
sometimes,
being simple is the key.
.
(p.s: the title has nothing to do with the post! heh. :> )
